With the inconsistent ling fishing, my dad and I decided to change our bottom fishing trip to a bay bass trip and I'm very pleased we did. Pushed off the dock in keyport at 530, ran across the bay and had bait by 6 and were set up fishing by 615. The morning began really slow. Tons of readings but we couldn't even get a bluefish to bite. I became very frustrated so we put the mojo's out and caught a 30 inch bass right away. Released him for good karma and got back on the troll with nothing to show for it. With time running out, we decided to drift live bunker in one more area and I'm glad we did. As I put the boat in neutral and turn to toss my bunker I see my dad hunched over with his rod bent to the water. After a ton of drag screaming runs left right up and down we assumed it was a 20 pound bluefish but boy were we wrong. He finally got the fish to turn its head and up comes a full grown cow! Into the net she went, measured out to 48 inches in length and 42 pounds on the hand scale at the dock. NICE! It would have weighed more but it had an empty stomach and was spawned out. After that we ran back up to drift again and picked a 32 incher and some run offs but it was the end of tide and even the readings began to disappear.! Good day with my old man if you ask me. Pictures to follow
