For anyone who witnessed that, it looks like the bunker were dying I assume due to low oxygen levels. Is that what happened? That was the case last year or a few years ago in SRI when the bunker swarmed into the river and depleted the oxygen to a point that everything in the river died. I didn't see any bluefish in the video, just seemed like a massive school of bunker that were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Surprised the Belford pirates weren't out in force netting every last one, guess bunker don't have as much demand in the fall.

Yeah it is amazing that the bunker boats were not netting em up. The bunker look like they do when in a live tank with to many in there and they are starving for oxygen

If I see that many of the same species in the same place it's one of two things. Either they are bunched up due to predators-which weren't obvious in that video or it's the other-spawning. I asked around and couldn't get any confirmation of that being the case either.
the video is from Nov. so it's possible.

pretty sure that's WHY there are so many bunker around nowadays because they are no longer allowed to net them inshore.

I was out that day too. I took a video as well

Bluefish and some stripers were there pushing the bunker up. Earlier in the day i had a double header blues on a shad umbrella rig snap right at the boat. Two blues now swimming around attached at the mouth with an umbrella rig. Thats rough living
