Finally handed in my last assignment for the semester on Wednesday night, so I decided to hit the water after work on Thursday. Decided to try something I had never done before and take the kayak out to fish for walleye after dark. Chrisper gave me some really good info, and I was on my way.
I launched around 830 and called it a night at about 1030. Managed a couple of nice walleye on lures and a herring I had snagged with my lure. Didn't sink the boat with them, but my first night walleye trip was definitely a success! All fish wrre released. Unfortunately, the only pic I got is pretty bad because the fish decided he was going to jump out of the kayak after one picture.

.
I just started to kayak at night last summer. It's a new experience for me that requires a different set of skills than fishing in the daylight. I really enjoy the quiet and solitude of it.
I plan on doing more of it this summer, especially since it seems like the only time I can get away. I have to find better ways of dealing with the bugs....and eels. On some waters the eels are crazy at night.

nice job man!
you guys are crazy fishing at night from the yaks....the maniacs are already out and about...i almost got hit on wed night with my nav lights on....make it a good practice to flash any approaching boat....nav lights get lost among all the dock and house lights...i hate the damn red/green lights everyone has on their boat houses.....

JDTuna I don't wana hijack your Walleye post but NJSquatch brings up a good point! I was on the lake alone Saturday night and knew I had a few good buddies out there! Anyway! Fishing a cove on the lake around 11 PM a ski Nautique piece of shit came flying into the cove doing about 40 mph on the water! This POS waked me and I shined my cell phone light on the boat! I wasn't in the right frame of mind Saturday night so I followed him to his house "he had about 5-6 friends on this POS" and I proceeded to tell him he was going to kill someone going that fast in the middle of the night! They didn't care about what I was saying! They just laughed and blew me off! Watch out for the elitist non fishermen on the big pond! They don't give a rats ass about anyone! Please BE SAFE!!! Im sure a few other guys saw this boat as well!

next time get there numbers and give the police a call. It is typically kids driving their daddies boat around. Daddy will be mad when the cops come knocking on the door.
Seriously yakers be careful out there!
