When you're given lemons, make lemonade, right?

Well with not any other real "game" in town down here in ocean county, I took my guys out to target what seems to be the entire biomass of bluefish in our area.

Nasty, cold morning with a little rain. Ran a little distance in the back and couldn't find much, but finally after we got some tide moving we were able to find a few willing gators, and from then on out we had a steady pick of 8-12# bluefish with some CRAZY flurries of multiple triple and quadruple headers. This went on all morning long until it was time for us to head back in different places in the back, but mostly on the tidal flats.

All fish were taken on different plugs, like bombers, rebels, yo-zuri's and of course SP minnows but also had a couple on swimmers and also a handful on metal (krocs and avas). Also all fish were taken on light to medium action spinning rod so the action and angling was insane. Biggest we had was a few 15#ers - these are by far the biggest bluefish I've ever seen on the "inside" in our area.

We wound up catching a load for shark and fluke bait, filleted up about a dozen for the boys to take home for the grill and smoker, and then filleted the rest for the Fishin' For the Cause/Cure at Clark's Landing (we bring the fish into the catering hall's kitched, the chef cooks it up, and brings it to the local food bank) so NONE of this fish will be wasted.

Great day - loads of bent rods and the guys had a blast. I for one, am also hurting after fighting several myself!

Love the food bank idea! Way to go!
