Fished with iBass360 yesterday, had a spot in mind, and that's where Eric and I caught mostly smallmouths and a couple of largemouths of about two pounds. Water temperature at 57 early on, by what I gathered, it had fallen, so I guess the smallmouths had spawned. Who knows, really. We didn't see any beds and most of the bass came from five or six feet of that sort of turbid water, though they could have been spawned-out females.

Largest bass of the dozen-and-a-half or so of us fishing caught weighed about five-and-a-half, largemouth, and many others, one over four, some other three, all of the fish quickly released.

The Spruce is thriving, but sure gets pounded. Those bass see a lot of lures.

Had a nice 17-18" largemouth there Friday nite. Belly was huge. Gorging on herring. Don't think the lmbs spawned yet.

Sounds like a great time was had by all! The ibass360 "FISHNIC" was a success! Lots of pressure on Spruce as always but still fish to be caught!!! :D

I saw you guys getting off the water just as I was getting on.

I found the fishing to be really slow yesterday, but I manged a couple of bass and white perch. The Largemouth I caught appeared to be still holding eggs.

In terms of angling-hours per-acre , Spruce is probably the most over-fished lake in New Jersey and possibly the world. Luckily, New Jersey Fish & Game stocks plenty of fish in there like Catfish and Hybrid Stripers. I'm not sure what would become of that reservoir without the constant input of stocked fish.

I've met people who have traveled all the way from New York City to fish there, although I don't understand why.

Lure companies that make a big deal about the over-fished bass lakes in Japan have probably never been to New Jersey and have definitely never been to Spruce. On a weekend in the summer, the boat launch parking lot looks like the Walmart parking lot with boat trailers.

All I can say is thank God for NJ Fish & Game and anglers with a good catch-and-release ethic or that lake would be reduced to sunfish and carp within a year or two.

OK, who was who? I was just getting there as you guys were leaving too. :) I have the Blue Trailblazer with the little white boat. That place was packed. By the time I left, there was only one trailer left in the lot. I missed one hit on a paddletail as it was sinking, besides that I caught nothing. :p

OK, who was who?

I was the guy with the little green kayak.
It was strapped to the top of a little blue car.
