I can think of a few names I don't see on the list yet! I won't mention them as I am too polite but you know who you are. These trips are always a blast and its to support a great cause. Maybe the Rangers will be out of the playoffs by then so you can cross that off your list of other things to do. :D

Ok made the list changes. My group so far is at least 4 and prob 6 to 8 so we should be ok to sail. As usual we will pick up a few weather watchers. . However LETS GO , Fishing has been good and will get better, great boat, great cause, great time etc etc etc.
Approx 10 - 15 spots open. Not my first rodeo so I get its never easy and yet we ALWAYS pull off the trip so still relaxed at this point.
Thanks to all aboard

Really looking forward to this trip - it's < 10 days away !!
Had a great time with my crew last year - catching a variety of tasty creatures: Cod, Pollack, Sea Raven (yum), even a Lobster for Grateful Dad. All were caught on hi-lo clam rigs. This year I'm curious to try jigging - but I have a few questions:
* when is it better to jig vs. clam? if the cod are on baitfish jigging is a given, but how can you tell besides trying ?
* what teasers to use ? I've got plenty of metal , but curious what folks use on top hook . .
* is it OK to jig if guy next to you is clamming ?
* how did jiggers do on last year's RFA trip ?
I know Bunker Dunker Ed is a mad jigger - looking for some feedback as I'm getting my equipement together - Thanks mucho !!
Walleyed
04-21-2016, 10:29 AM
While we're asking questions....I'm assuming the best all-around bait rig is a hi-lo.
From what I've gleaned from previous posts (especially those from Leif), I want a rig about 6' long, surgeon loop on the bottom for the bank sinker, dropper loop about 6" up with a 3/0 for ling and another dropper loop 3-4' up with a 7/0-8/0 for the cod/pollock.
I'm assuming a circle hook for the 3/0, but what about the big hook, circle or J?
Thanks
SaltLife1980
04-22-2016, 09:50 PM
I jigged last year. I got one nice one. Hammered gold jig then about 2 feet up a 8/0 with a pink soft plastic. Dad was fishing bait right next to me and we had no issues. What i been hearing about lately is that the bigger cod are being taken on the jig compared to the clam:eek:

Tick Tick One week to go. I really don't mind and even enjoy running these trips but 31 guys for all the things going on that need attention is a little weak! just saying. Again the basis of these trips is to try and raise a little money to help fight the recreational issues we face year in and out. Simple way to help the cause and you are fishing to boot!
It also has become a brotherhood of fishermen who care and many friendships have been developed for the common good and we always have a great time.
Thank You for all your support and you all know who you are
Mr Kevin Bogan has stepped up once again just charging his costs to provide me another Fish Poison Rod (Medium / Heavy) Bottom for raffle. Working on other prizes.
We have enough to get the ropes off the boat and break even but to make the trip worthwhile we need 40.

OK Still looking good although wish the body count was higher. Of course they are taking NE winds but looks minimal at this point. Lunch order going in at 4PM tomorrow so if your not signed up NO soup for you!
Looks like subs again as its the easiest and I am too busy at work to arrange much else.
Been talking with Capt Bob about a Tog stop on the way home, crabs are tough to get, Tog are in tight so basically two types of fishing and two trips so we are sticking with mixed bag offshore wrecks but a tog stop is not out of the question with clams if offshore doesn't produce or weather is an issue. Will keep you posted
Need a little help with the following I am kind of flying solo as far as all the details , arrangements go and work is nuts:
- Need two large coolers to hold food and soft drinks for 33- 35 peeps.
I will bring food and drinks to the boat so empty coolers
- Need someone to bring ice for same: will reimburse you at boat
- Need someone near PP to pick up Fish Poison Raffle rod at Kevin Bogans, will be paid for , you just have to pick it up and not keep it.
Thanks to anyone that can pitch in, if not I will figure it out.
Looking forward to another great trip and maybe a fish or two or more. Think we are going to get um this time!

OK Looks like we are all set. Capt Bobby has requested NO Boarding of any kind until his Crew arrives which should be around 4AM. So no need to get there at 3 LOL. I hope to be there by 4 as well and we will start the boarding order at 4:30 so we can get out by 5.
Cod reports from Off Off shore are slow so the plan will be to fish the Mid range wrecks. 15 to 20 miles and see if we cant pick away. More fishing time and more area to hit.
Looking forward to fishing will you all and Thanks again for signing on.

First, HUUUUUGGGE thanks to Dave Daley for putting this trip together, no easy task with this many people and coordinating all that goes along with it. The Capt and crew, as always on the Gambler, were top notch. Weather and fishing reports made us reconsider how far off to run which appears to have been the right decision. Around the boat we picked at various species caught with some nice Cod, Ling, even a Blackfish, some Sea Ravens, even some mackerel found and........the usually peskys, dog fish, congor eels, silver eels, skates and bergals. Great laughs with Javier and the "Pirate team", some good jokes and ad libbing with cuts on bibs being worn, etc.....Weather laid out as day went on and became nice and sunny for remainder of day. A few nice prizes from sponsors and non sponsors and a 50/50 to end the day on the ride in. Great time, thanks Dave and Gambler team!

As stated but well worth stating again Capt Bobby and GAMBLER crew are top notch. 4 mates for a trip of 30 guys!!!. Attention, polite and respect for the sport are abound with this crew. The Gambler effort to provide a catch as well as a great fishing experience is second to none. Thanks Capt and crew.

Had a blast as usual. I was high hook on Bergals from my group of Pirates :D. My buddy Kenny had the best day had two nice cods and a bonus size blackfish. Penny had a pair nice cods. Scotty also had a couple of Cod fish. The rest of us had a nice buzz... Thanks to Dave and the RFA for putting this trip together and of course the Gambler crew who worked their tails off. Tight lines!

A blast as always. Ride out East in 10 footers was quite daunting, thankfully it laid down when the sun came out. Sporadic action at each of the drops, the doggies and Congers were HUGE. I came home with a Cod, Ling and big ugly Sea Raven. Using Bunker Dunker Ed's Raven recipe, the Raven was a culinary hit - proving once again that Murray's Law holds: the uglier it is, the better it tastes  Thanks again Dave and Captain Bobby for another great RFA trip - we got 'em on the Gambler :)
