Fished bayside from 6 AM to 12 noon .... high to outgoing .... using bloodworms and clam..... not a touch... but I have never seen the amount of gannets massive cloud of them diving on baitfish North of the Keyport pier. They worked that giant pod North and South for over an hour ..... it looked like a tidal wave building in the distance ... thousands of birds dive bombing the water over and over..... crazy....... :D
Duh... it was Saturday 3/19 -

I had the boat out for about an hour trolling around the gannets with no love. Marked Very little in the usual early season spots water was 48.

They are around but not in numbers yet.
Fished Saturday high tide of Union.
One short and one keeper with keeper barely making it over 28. Clams seem to do the trick.

Gannets prefer herring. That is why purple stretch 25 work so well.

i have to think bait fish aren't going to be up on the surface being eaten by birds for fun...predator fish had to be pushing them up...
sometimes the fish get really keyed in on whatever the school of bait fish is and you have to match the size. maybe it was little herring?
