Had the pleasure of attending the HIMAR awards dinner tonight at the Channel Club. Ruth and I had the good fortune of being at the the same table as 2 fishing legends, Al Ristori and Gene Graman.
Al is still writing for the Star Ledger and hasn't missed a beat. Great hearing about NJ's Giant Tuna fishing days from one of our local legends. He had the state record for a short while at 1016 pounds.
We seem to follow Gene around the Sandy Hook Bay Area all year. Not sure there is anyone who puts more time on the water then him. He deservedly was awarded a Life Time Achievement Award by the club. Was great talking to him about fishing back in the day.. At almost 80 he's been fishing for almost 75 years and I'm convinced he's got another 80 in him.
