...or trying atleast. Went out for a few hours after work with a few buddies. Fished the back bay with clams and worms. Nothing. Had a few hits but couldn't connect. Was really surprised how much bunker there was. Every cast we had one on our line for a good hour straight. After this weeks weather, things should start improving and the bass should be on the prowl.

I can't wait to rip into my first keeper! Did you have fresh clams? If yes, where'd you get them if you don't mind me asking! Good luck out there this season!

I'm sorry but I gotta ask. If there was bunker all over the place why not chunk with that?
Tom banjoit's still to cold to chunk the bass don't really eat chunks usually until the water is atleast in the low 50s usually in April sometime

Correct bud. Too cold still. They aren't feeding on the bunker yet.

Water temps reached just over 46 degrees Wednesday during the ebb tide at the Keansberg gate. Hopefully next week the Raritan bay will be in the low 50's.
Even if the water gets to 50s next week personally o still wouldn't use bunkerthis happens plenty of years the water warms up quick and everyone gets chunk happy and you may fool one but the clams still out produce. It takes time for the actual bay temps to get right before the bass will feed on the bunker.....
However they will follow those bunker around and not actually feed just waiting for the time to be right

Went clamming yesterday and there was tons of life. Sand & blood worms all over the bottom and a load of killies as well.
It's just a matter of time now.
