I learned a hard lesson last year.....do not throw a cast net and forget that you have your Costa's resting on top of your baseball cap. :(

Years of lurking here, and my first post is for sunglasses!
I've been sporting a certain Hawaiian brand for several years now, but have decided to pursue some Costas after hearing so many positive things about them. Once I get my prescription updated, I'll be making the hour trip to Eyes on First because of all the positive feedback I've heard.
Few questions. I've always preferred poly lenses since they don't shatter. I've seen what lead can do to a glass lens. The only advantage that I know of with glass vs. poly is that its a little more clear, especially on the peripheral. Is that true? Is glass that much more clear? Or stick with poly?
Second question is lens color. I currently have one in amber, and one is a green(ish) silver mirror finish. Amber is great for low light, river fishing, fog, etc. But what's the difference between the green and blue lenses for those brighter, sunnier days?
My primary use for the new glasses will be inshore and bay fishing. I rarely get off shore.
Suggestions & experiences?
Thanks in advance.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to answer your questions and make some suggestions. For prescription Costa's we always recommend a material called Trivex, not glass. The glass lenses are extremely heavy and most times when I sell glass to a customer they regret getting it and normally come back to get them changed to Trivex. You probably never heard of Trivex lenses from Costa because it is only available in prescription. In the non prescription Costa's the materials offered are glass and polycarbonate. The glass in the non prescription sunglasses is a lightweight glass that is not available in prescription. Trivex is a relatively newer material. It is more impact resistance than poly, extremely scratch resistant and has the closest optical clarity to glass. As far as lens colors the Blue Mirror comes with a gray base lens and the copper (amber) is available with a Silver or Green Mirror. Everyone's light sensitivity is different so an individuals preference may differ from one person to the next. But in general the Gray Base lens with the Blue Mirror is great in full sun. If it is overcast, dawn, dusk etc.. I find it to be too dark. The copper base lens available with the silver or green mirror is good in full sun but also good in variable lighting conditions. The green mirror further reduces light transmission then the silver mirror. The copper base lens also increases contrast where as the gray base lens just makes everything darker. This is the lens that I wear all of the time and I love it. I do feel like I can see into the water better with the copper lens also. I would suggest when your ready to buy that you try both colors on in full sun and in in the shade to see whats most comfortable for your eyes. We do this with all of our customers when they are trying to decide on what color is best for them. I hope this helped. please let me know if you have any additional questions. Looking forward to meeting you!

Thanks, Jamie. I can see why everyone speaks so highly about you!
Great information. I will be heading down in the next few weeks. Trying them on will be necessary. I'm definitely sensitive to bright sun and find myself wearing my sunglasses (out of necessity) when most other people aren't.
Correct, I've never heard of Trivex but it sounds like the way to go. I hate heavy glasses.
I'll be sure to introduce myself when I come in. Thanks again.
