I was driving by Pompton Lake yesterday and saw a guy jigging a lure off the bridge. I have never been in this area before. Is it worth me launching a boat or kayak here???? It looks like a decent size but I never hear anything about it. Was the state record pike really caught there??? The shore access doesn't look too great.

I know there are plenty of carp and a few koi in there, that's as far as I know about the place

Its a good lake and fishes well lotta big fish, as mentioned there is not to much access but if you look around u will find spots u can throw a small boat or yak in if you wanted to.... Def would help if you fished it from a yak especially after this year lol goodluck,

always reminds me of a little LH with all the houses, good variety of fish too

C&R highly recommended because the lake is pretty badly polluted from the old dupont plant though

Dudes are always fishing off the bridge. There are 2 ramps, one on the main lake at the north side of the causeway in Pompton Lakes and another ramp up river in Potash Lake in Oakland. All boat and kayak friendly, No wake zone on the river between Potash and Pompton Lake. You can also dump a yak in at the Doty Road Bridge. All the usual suspects swim out there.

I believe the state record pike came out of Pompton. I've fished it occasionally over the years and came up with some bass but nothing to write home about. It's pretty shallow and weedy. When taking my motor boat, I use the ramp on Potash Lake and fish my way down river to Pompton. It's maybe a half mile.

I've also launched a canoe from Terhune Park on 202. The ramp on Lakeside Ave is a PITA because there is no parking at the ramp, or on any of the nearby roads. Makes no sense to me for them to have a ramp there.

As if two summers ago yeah you went down made the first left and left at y. Parking on the right side with marking it. Takes two extra minutes

Have to assume a few bad apples have ruined it for the rest of us

I fished there just last year, once you launch your boat, go down the road, make the first left, and they actually have parking marked on the 2 side streets for boat trailer parking. It's a little walk down the road to the ramp, but not bad. Plus A little walk wont hurt me at all since my wife shrunk all my clothes this winter..., NO, it's not cause I gained any weight, it was my wife's fault...LOL
