With the recent loss of Sam can anyone recommend someone local who poures weight?
I'm in the Bergen County area and would prefer to pick up vs pay shipping costs.
Thx.

Prior to ordering with Sam I would frequent Newark Sinker/Fairfield tackle. I called for the current price and they are at .25 per ounce which is not the best, they went up in price. They have a very large selection in stock. An alternative are some vendors on eBay which include free flat rate priority mail shipping and you can get around .16 per ounce. I have not found anyone who matches Sam's service, quality and pricing. If anyone knows please keep me informed.

Unfortunately I don't think you're going to. Sam was selling for 12c an ounce I think. I used to try and give him more money and he wouldn't take it. 16c on a eBay sounds very reasonable if the quality is good. I thought about pouring my own as I have an exhaust room at work and a lead pot but honestly I'm pretty sure the hobby is what killed Sam. :(

Go on Craigslist search sinkers Union beach I've used him before nice product 15 cents per ounce and he also trades raw lead for finished.

I sell weights for about 15 cents an ounce. 4 8's for $5, 6's 6 for $5 etc. Only sell when down fishing usually on the J2. Sometimes Angler or NK3. Keep them on my truck so if you see me ask. Gonna start selling 4-8 oz plain Spro type jigs also.

Yea Sam was the man. I have some on hand but looking for options.
I spoke to the guy on caigslist for .15 cents. and he said he can supply.
Sam was the best at .12 cents plus he did a 50/50 split on scrap weight trade which I often did.

At one time they use to be a good price. Gave them a call this morning and was disappointed with their .25 per ounce. Not worth taking the drive, up north, to their store.

I am currently moving into a new house and getting my pouring stuff set back up in my new shop, but by the end of March I should be in full production mode. Gonna be priced around $0.13 per ounce once I am.

Actually, it depends what your looking at. For instance on some of their rods and reels they are very competitive. On some other things not so much. I live in northern western NJ so for me its a close place to shop if I'm looking to pick up leader, hooks or a few sinkers

Thanks for all the options and pms.

Funny I was so busy with it that last winter I gave Sam a ton of work just to keep my orders filled.. Now I kind of wished I never stopped. But probably better for my health anyway... I was busier than hell though.

There is a small possibility I'd get back in it... How much lead all you looking at a year? Reason I'm asking is to see if it's worth my time. I'd have to be at .15 a ounce

Used lead bandit several times, never a problem. It pays to buy in bulk because shipping is really low price.

There is a place in Brooklyn that will sell 25lbs/45.00.
I know its inconvenient but I may be able to help out as I live in S.I. and work in Bklyn. At least you will avoid VZ toll.
Have to buy bags of 25lbs. Maybe a few guys can pool money or whatever.

He might be able to match price but there will only be one Sam the Sinkerman as he was truly one of a kind.

There was a husband and wife team in Woodbridge that made sinkers for many years.Unfortunately they both got sick from lead. I made sinkers for years and still have molds. Lead is like gold in these days. Sorry to hear about Sam.

I have lead, access to, pots and molds. Knowing the effects from breathing the fumes I'll let someone else else do the job for me. I poured as a kid, it's not hard. For me it's not worth the heath risls coming from a family with health issues.

When do you anticipate being in production? Can you handle bulk orders consistently? I also have a contact in the South who produces at a fair market rate.

On a side note, took a ride by Sams place today in hope to speak to his wife. House up for sale and the living room looked empty. Sometimes when the sh*t hits the fan it hurts.

If you do it outside on a breezy day and your only melting enough for your own use the health risks are slim to none.

I can't remember, but didn't they have a Son? Perhaps she moved in with them? Hope all is well, she was a very nice lady.

So. Asked for lead and lead I got. One of the first guys to PM me was Mike H. We discussed my needs and agreed on a price.
Within a few days he had 200 weights made for me. He was kind enough to meet me on his way home from work at a near by location and delivered his work.
Nice guy who makes some nice lead.
He does not have a big production shop but I am sure he can provide what you need.
Thanks again Mike, I will let you when I need some more weight.

To everyone who answered my thread and sent me PM's, THANK YOU ALL.
I am happy knowing there are still people making weights to keep us fishermen happy.

And thanks to Gerry for keeping this site going. Can honestly say this site has some great guys who keep each other informed on just about everything
