last time I was down at Belmar, I saw a lot sea urchins scattered around the sidewalk on party boat row..The soft underside had been scooped out, leaving just the needles/shell... Now we know that a lot of bottom fish eat them,Sheepshead,Triggers, probably also Tog.. crabs and lobsters eat sea urchins as well.
I was thinking maybe someone on one of the boats got a bunch and used them.. Might be a really great bait if you could find enough of them.. Anyone ever use them, or hear of them being used?? Found this on Youtube.. Pretty interesting... bob

If they were scooped out, they were probably sushi.

Scattered like maybe the seagulls dropped them to break them up & eat them?

I've netted them there and eaten them. Mostly small ones, but twenty make a nice snack.

Def an acquired taste... I can't seem to acquire it regardless of how many times I try!
Pretty cool video though on prepping them for use as bait.

You guys that have access and know how to acquire them should take a dozen out for tog someday, and see how they work compared to crabs, just for shits and giggles... bob

Yup. The yellow people love sea urchin and we scoop them up in vengeance. Wtf are you going to do about it???
Next up green crabs for sashimi! Pretty soon you guys won't have any bait for blackfish
.. wow, you have problems. I seem to piss in your Cheerios on a daily basis without even trying to....

Inexpensive as can be there. Free with a long dip net.

Surprised no one has tried them for bait if they are easy to get... that soft middle part might be killer when they are looking for something softer in cold water... bob

Where do you find sea urchins around here? The only place I've ever seen them is in the Caribbean or Mexico.
