When does this season start?
Meaning, how early do guys go out for them?

There's no closed season and the fish are there year round. In the winter it's tough to get out due to the weather and the lack of boats going out for them. Most guys start going in early spring but there's usually a good amount doggies at that time. Reeling a double header dog fish at 600+ feet gets old quick!

The Russian Roulette just posted something in the open boat forums about starting in April. I'm pretty sure it is just up to weather windows since those bottom temps stay the same year-round.

You need pretty much ideal conditions to fish for them, basically because they like to drift over them so too much wind ruins that. 5 to 10 mph wind, maybe up to 15 but not much more, yep it's tough trying to get out on tile trips. I'll bet most tile fishermen get blown out more than half the time.

Some guys drop down on tuna trips during the day when not much(nothing) is happening tuna-wise.
