Check out SOUTHERN WAY CHARTERS VENICE SPORTMANS LODGE on internet.
We had an awesome experience staying there two nights and fishing with Captain Will Wall. Our trip was a couple of years ago in June...... Ran offshore for BFT's and YFTs. Fishing inshore for BIG red snapper.
Ask for Captain Dan at the lodge who at the time was our host at the lodge. Awesome home cooked meals and a nicely appointed bar.
Great place and fishing is awesome. The captains down there do not fool around they are out there to catch fish to come back to Venice and claim bragging rights. It is a serious competition down there to be the best.

I haven't been but have also heard great things about the area. I hear the Tuna fishery down there is 2nd to none.

If you can afford it, I would do a half day redfish, 1 day tuna and 1 day bottom/mixed bag. Redfishing is great in the area and the rigs are great for 4-8ln mangrove snapper and cobia as well as red snapper.

I would consider fishing for redfish MY best fishing trip ever. I caught redfish up to 48 inches. We used Capt. Mike Frenette and stayed at this house which is located in Venice harbor. During our trip, Mike had a local person stop by each night and prepare a fresh fish meal. It was cajun eating to the nth degree.

When is best time to target big redfish in Venice?

Thanks

Our trip was planned for mid-April. We fished the Gulf outside of Venice using a popping cork and a trailing jig. Great fun!!

Delivered a couple of oil rig noats theu that region years back 70's I believe , outstanding fishery offshore inshore U name it there used to be a big fishing club near this town , private mostly concerned with offshore angling ! Had the chance to run in vicinity of De Soto canyon I believe with a member who was a friend of a friend back home .

Wow - that sounds like heaven and I too heard the trophy Redfishing is off the charts there... A 4 ft Redfish in shallow water must have been a blast.... Those fish have some attitude and good eating too!!

I've been living here for a year..........fishing is unbelievable......Not taking charters at this time, but have a boat in Grand Isle.

No place else in the US comes remotely close........not even Florida.

You will be here during the peak of "lump season" so all of the best boats will be booked, but you really can't go wrong with anyone in Venice.

Tuna and lots of wahoo will be available with a very short run at that time of year. It's not a great time of year for bottom fishing due to snapper closure in federal waters.

You can wear yourself out catching bull reds all day long year around.

If you are interested in a side trip to Grand Isle I can host you for a trip to the close rigs where you can beat on all sorts of fish..........

J, it's a long haul but what are the prospects if someone towed their own boat there?
