Well going down to visit the in-laws . in Fort Myers. Have one day bottom fishing/grouper in Venice booked and wanted to plan one/two more trips. What type of fishing do you recommend and if you have a captain that would be appreciated. I don't mind driving for a good captain and to fish. Thank you in advance!

Grouper is closed... You can catch em, but plan on releasing them!

Not so fast there Mr. Treble... Grouper on the east coast is closed after Jan 1, it's still open on the Gulf side.
Bucky- If you don't mind driving I think I know someone who catches Sails, Mahi, King Macks, Mutton and yellowtail on the East side :D:D:D

Capt Carlos of Andrea's Toy fame is up in St Pete and will get you into plenty of action

I've fished with Captain Matt Mitchell several times. He runs a custom bay boat out of Pine Island which is probably a half hour ride from Fort Myers. Great guy and good with kids too.

Just a hair further north in Sarasota, the Shark/Shark2 boats have always put me on the fish from grouper to snapper to sharks to amberjacks to cuda to kingfish depending on season. A bit of a drive from Myers area but well worth it outside of Capt Joe in Venice/Osprey...

Yes, grouper is open on the gulf side. Sorry, don't know anybody over in that area I could reccomend, I'm on the Atlantic side by West Palm.

check out hubbardsmarina.com...Capt. Wilson is long gone but his son jeff was running the Floridafisherman since the late eighties. They run some overnight trips that put your arms to the test. Huge amberjacks , Black and red and snowy grouper and mango snappers. This is Maderia beach just north of St Pete beach. I use to catch pinfish and have a live well on the boat..you may be able to order live bait ahead. The live bait will produce as will a nice oily sardine..i just checked there website and they are running full time.
great memories...pools over a grand ect
Fish galore, Capt. Joe Miller, hands down!
