Hello!
I am happy to say I just acquired a new Avet SX MC reel and need to put line on it. Probably looking at 30 or 40 lb test braid for "all purpose fishing".
Manual says it holds 570 yards of 40 lb braid. Yikes!
Should I put a mono backing on it first and then the usual small spool of Power Pro (or something similar?) (150 yards per spool I believe)
How do you know how much mono to put on first if that's the process.
Can't see loading 570 yards of braid.
Looking for tips here!
Thanks guys!

I would put enough mono to fill the spool 2/3rds up and put a 100 yard top shot of braid on top of it... 100 yards is plenty for anything inshore.

Best knot I've found to join the braid to mono is this one

The same knot I use the join a mono leader to the braid.

It's simple to tie, very strong and has a nice low profile so it slips through the rod guides nicely too.

Yeah like Gerry said, go about 1/2-3/4 of mono and then fill the rest with your braid of choice. If you're only using 30-40 then you can go closer to 3/4, if using 50lb then go closer to 1/2.
