Had the pleasure or fishing with fish bound charters this weekend. Saturday was very nautical with a big easterly swell. Kane took us out knowing we wanted to fish. We had to stay close due to the conditions but we still had a great trip. Finished day 1 with an easy boat limit and threw back plenty of nice fish for the last few hours. Alex had a nice 9.5lb fish to top off day 1. Day 2 was supposed to be much nicer weather and the plan was to run further. The weatherman was wrong but we went out anyway. Another great day of fishing as Sal had a nice 11.5 lber. I also caught my personal best at 15lbs which was released. Alex had another pig on that eventually found its way back to the wreck. Eric had a bunch of nice fish as well. Lots of fish in the 4-8lb range and an easy boat limit. Back to the dock early after fishing in the snow. Great weekend with a great group of anglers and crew. Thank you Kane and Kevin.

John,
Try to post a picture of your fish. She was a beaut. I was very happy to see her swim away so strongly. Good fishing with the whole crew and congrats on a great fish. You were hot all weekend. Alex had a real heartbreaker on. He got the fish up from the bottom and the fish just stopped. It was BIG. As Alex tried to crank it up his reel handle broke. He grabbed the line to try to hand line it, but the fish made it back to the wreck. Alex took it better than I would have.

. . . As Alex tried to crank it up his reel handle broke. . . . WOW - I've seen stripped gears, straightened hooks, broken hearts - but that's the first time I've heard of a wily Tog breaking a handle  Keep at it Alex, she'll soon be yours !

Alex imagine if that happened to me how many F bombs you and the others would have heard! It has happen to me and another fellow while Golden fishing. The screw within the handle just broke never the actual handle. I used a screw driver to finish the job, someone gave my bud a Dewalt drill that adapted to his reel and completed the job and landed the fish. No BS! It was a Manual trip too. lol Dennis

I was very happy to see the big girl swim away!
Congrats John on your new personal best as she was truely a beauty. She was released in great shape to be caught another day. Crew both days were great to fish with. As for lost fish it was very dissapointing as you put your time and and hope to get that bite. Set the hook and had it off the bottom. My rod was doubled over like an old ugly stick commercial. I have caught allot of DD on this rod but this was the real deal as it was all fish as i was not stuck. When you have fish on like that everything has to go right. I did everything right as my rig held up and i had him out of his home on his way up. Everything i had control over was done correctly. Tackle failure like that is out of my control. The worst part is not knowing how big it really was as i would bet the farm that it was a very big teenager or possibly even bigger. We will never know. If someone who is fishing down that way catches a fish with a 5/0 owner with a glow bead on it it was meant to be that you caught it and not I.
Fish won that battle but i will be back and keep trying. Talked to my buddy on the way home and it put things in perspective. He is in hospital with his dying father that will probably not make it through the weekend. That is true heart break. I got to fish with a great group of guys and caught some nice quality fish both days including a nice 9.5 lb male. Dissapointment is part of Life it is what you do going forward that counts. I will be back in search of the one. I just hope it does not take another 30 years.
