Looking to head out to the Atlantic Highlands in a little bit. Don't see how there could supposedly be 5 footers out there with a 5 knot wind today.... I'll find out for sure around 8.

There's a pretty large ground swell from an offshore storm with the moon tides when the tide is on the outgoing around the rip and coming out of inlet there's going to be pretty big surf in the inlet and the rip

Hence the small craft advisory for rough seas

On this type of setup I've seen 6
foot seas in Shark River Inlet

They are swells 200 feet apart. Need to know the -period between them.

Offshore swells can be big but are merely speed bumps making you run 20 instead of 30-35 knots.

That is unless the tide and wind oppose the swells. Then they get pointy topped instead of round and you have waves with no back- VERY HAIRY! Bow stuffing and worse case even pitch poling.

Gona be rough. All vessels under 70 feet should remain in port at least until next May. Just to be safe.!!!!!:):p

Like Adam said, very strange conditions yesterday. Hardly any wind yet 3 to 4 foot seas. What little wind we had to keep us tight on the anchor, was canceled out by the swells pushing up our stern quarter.
