View Full Version : BOUNTY HUNTER - Sad Day On The Bounty Hunter, 11/16

Bounty Hunter
11-17-2015, 06:04 PM
Bounty Hunter regular Ed Sobjak had his annual charter on board today. Along with Ed were Kyle, Steve, Jim, Mike & Bruce. Paul ran to the area where he had the Bass yesterday. The reads were solid and after putting out the Trolling gear the guys were into the Bass big time. We had plenty of hook ups but only managed to put 3 Bass in the box while losing over 10. After some discussion the guys settled down and the next 2 Bass were landed nicely. Steve a member of the charter fought the last Bass a 44 1/2" beauty and as the fish hit the deck Steve collapsed. Paul immediately seen that Steve was in need of medical assistance and called the Manasquan CG. Fortunately the CG had a fast boat within 3 miles of our position and they responded to our call within minutes. We transferred Steve to the CG vessel and they were off to the Hospital where unfortunately Steve did not survive. Steve was an avid fisherman and he passed away doing what he loved. He will be missed by all of us. Capt. Paul and the crew of the Bounty Hunter send their Condolences and Prayers to Steve's family during this very difficult time.

We are saddened to hear this for all concerned, and our condolences to the family, friends, and crew. As unfortunate as this is, we all know Capt. Paul is one of the best Captains in the business and surely handled this as well as anyone could have.

Paul and Tony run a class operation second to none. They are very much a integral part of the foundation of our local fishing community. I'm sure anything and everything which could have been done was done to save this gentlemen's life. Condolences to family and friends of the deceased and to Paul and Tony for what I'm sure was an extremely trying day. As Gerry commented on as well, thanks so much to the Coast Guard for the rapid response time and efforts to save this individual. We should never take for granted the efforts and sacrifices these guys make for all of us.

My thoughts and prayers go out for Steve, his family, friends and the crew of the Bounty Hunter. It is not an easy thing to have to deal with anywhere, particularly at sea, but it is part of the business. Mate Garrett told me what happened and how hard you guys worked to help Steve. Sometimes even the best efforts won't work.

Rest in Peace Brother Fisherman.

I saw Paul when we got back from our offshore Sea Bass trip. Paul told us about what happened very sad indeed. The man left this world reeling in that last big one sad but he left us doing what he loved doing the most. RIP I'm sure you will be dearly missed by your family & all of your fishing buddies. Paul did everything he could do I think the coast guard back to him sooner then any EMS unit could have.

I would like to take a few moments to thank all of you for the kind words, condolences and prayers expressed in your responses.
They are appreciated by me and my crew but more important they are appreciated by Steve's family. Thanks again for showing that NJFishing members are a class act.

I also would like to commend the Manasquan Coast Guard for their prompt response to my call. From my initial call until they had Steve on their boat took exactly 6 minutes. They are all well trained professionals and we are very fortunate to have them so close when there is a time of need.

Very sorry to hear this. It really sucks. Kudos for doing your best to take care of him.

While I didn't know Steve, it sounds to me like he left this world on his terms surrounded by good friends, a great Captain & crew, doing what he loved & catching one last big one. May we all be so blessed to leave this world like Steve did.

May God comfort his famiy & friends. See you in paradise Steve.
