View Full Version : Not so great blackfish opener

Fished with my friend Roy and a couple other guys out of the Highlands. Started the day with a couple of short stripers around the hook but these fish were moving fast and disappeared within 5 minutes.

Anchored down south and started with a slow blackfish bite and mostly shorts. Pretty much was the same thing for us all day. Even when we tried some deeper water it was 90% shorts. We ended the day with just 5 keepers and nothing of any size either. A couple of nice seabass too. Stayed out til around 4:30 too. Hoped for some bass on the way in but luck was not on our side.

5 keepers is still better than any of our few tog trips last year. at least it's a start!

Whatever you do, dont fish next to Joey! Or be daring and fish next to him, cause he luck most times rubs off on others and he doesn't catch squat!

What was I think? Yes green crabs are definitely the preferred bait

I've had no problem catching on greenies, you cheat by trying to use those whites. your racist.

Pretty much in the 45' range until going out to 65. The deep provided better action but all shorts. Came back in for the end. Couldn't get any whites so everything was on greens

I don't know, I fished a non=sponsor, out of the Highlands, on Monday. I had 8K while the boat total was 30 fish I believe. On Tuesday, I fished Tagged Fish, I had a double limit with a boat limit by 11:00. It was a little sporty on Tuesday, 2 of the 6 on board couldn't do much more than sit and stare at the horizon, so glad Capt. Chad got the bigger boat!:)

Thinking 20 fish for me in the first two days, I may as well stay home for the rest of the season, probably shot my load. :D
