I've never seen so many boats fishing so close to shore over such a relatively small area. At one time the fleet of boats had to stretch for close to three miles or more. There were a few jackasses who just couldn't resist blasting through the boats and the bait. There were a few uncourteous individuals who ran in between boats that were livelining only yards from their transoms. They couldn't see the bunker schools people were working or they didn't care to see. It was not easy to work around all of the boats to get to the bait, but it wasn't impossible if you just were patient. Check out the fleet pictures from off Lavalette today. Even the Belmar boats were there and the party boats were railed. For the amount of customers and the number of fish available to them, a lot of fishermen on the party boats went home fishless. It's hard enough working a live bunker from a private boat. Getting a bunker to swim away from a party boat must make for some pretty messy tangles.

I am a boat and surf fisherman. Due to fuel issues over the last few weeks I am grounded for the rest of the year. I was surf fishing the Southern portion of Sandy Hook yesterday between the 36 Bridge and Beach C.

The fleet size proximity to the beach was amazing and kind of funny to watch from the shore. I had my shot twice ... missed a good hit on a top-water plug - had a hook up and good drag pulling run .. then gone.....then a knockdown on Bunker Chunk and another one unbuttoned.... oh well....

The frustrating part is that it looked like two other good shots at fish right in front of me ... but the fleet quickly descended and pushed them right down the beach.... looked like the scene out of Jaws without the dynamite ... :D

Lot's of life... and not sure if that was dolphin or smaller pilot whale in with the bunker pods running up and down the beach yesterday.....

Think it was a small whale - saw it as well.

CanyonFish- Did you get bad gas at AH Harbor? I gassed up there a couple weeks ago and have been having issues.

I keep the boat at AH on a trailer.. but did not gas up there...... we have a 2011 E-Tec and first 4 years were flawless..... had fuel issues up at Lake George over the summer .. changed the filter .. OK for a few days then bad again... had entire fuels system including all hoses pump etc redone.... had problem again while trolling off the hook and just dies and had Sea Tow drag us in....... still waiting to hear what is up as boat is now with mechanic.....

I don't know if it was the fuel or some other problem..... we are religious with changing the fuel water separator and everything..... :(

Billfish, was out there Sunday also. I believe you captured our boat in between the Tuna Stick boats in the background. Crazy day, got caught up with other boaters twice as the drug lines by and came in too close, once while I was fighting a nice fish, fortunately was able to still land it.....Saw some very close calls with guys jockeying in between boats.....

Sounds like another ETECH injector problem

Looks like the same story as Saturday only with more boats.

Saturday those who braved the wind kept on crusing close to shore following the birds diving to get their fill.

Had a nice view from the shore lines but did not stay long enough to witness all the mayhem that was going on.

Was in that fleet for awhile, and for the most part guys were pretty courteous.
was def alot of trebles flying around, but with bait so thick it didnt take much to get a bunker snagged.
what I couldnt understand was guys trying to troll through the fleet and all that bait.

bunker were so thick even throwing heavy shads we were snagging bunker just popping them back to the boat.

got away from the crowd and got to see tons of bass blitzes further off, and found bigger bass there.

was def ALOT of fish being caught by guys who took a little extra time to look, instead of just drifting a snagged bunker among the hundred million in the schools

Funny part is we also tried to take a fleet pic, but as yours , it only showed 1/10 of the boats that was actually there.
