Ran an open trip today since I had off from work. Left in the dark as the fog was lifting and headed back to where the bite has been good.
Lots of boats from the get go but plenty of bunker and bass for everyone. Got the snags in and had our first fish in the box by 7, followed by a few more. Moved around a bit in the pods trying to stay by ourselves and we picked as we moved along the beach. By 8 we easily had our under limit of fish to 42".
Finally got a pod right up on the beach all to ourselves with bass blowing up inside of it and proceeded to catch many more fish after looking for some overs but we wound up releasing several more gorgeous 35-40" fish. Kenny even got one to swipe at a plug but couldn't connect.
Around 9:30 we put out the Maja spoons and had instantaneous action of some bigger fish, as well as some smaller fish in the 28-30" range. We were able to pull 2 overs on the spoons.
By 11 things slowed - we had a couple more bites on the spoons but we called it a day early with sore arms and a cooler full of nice bass. Wound up boating 27 keeper sized bass retaining our boat limit of unders + 2 overs. Biggest fish was 44"/32# on a maja. Great trip - back at it this weekend!
