Wow was it beautiful out there today, too beautiful.....
My dad, Ed and I broke SRI around 645 and headed to some new grounds. Got there and had ZERO conditions, no wind no tide. Tough anchoring to say the least. We got in the general location and began picking fish but it wasnt what we were looking for. After a 4th or 5th try we finally landed on it. Right away my dad began showing me why i need to keep my mouth shut. He had 5 keepers to the boat in minutes while i sat there dumbfounded. After about 30 minutes, we slid off the piece and couldnt even come close to staying on it so off we went. Took a ride, grappled tight on one of our honey holes and picked and plucked at solid fish. Not to many shorts today, average fish was around 4 pounds. My dad was high hook (16 keepers), won our poolfish (7 pounds), and was the king of DOGS;) edging out Ed for the crown late in the day. Ed ended with 7 or 8 keepers and I ended with the same.
I know my title was blackfish beatdown, the full story is my dad did most of the beating, i did most of the netting.

A beautiful day with good fishing and hanging out with my old man and a good friend, what else can you ask for?

Thats why Dads are the best. He is still showing you the ropes while still letting you know that he is still the MAN. One of my favorite sayings. He may have taught you all you know about blackfishing but he has not taught you all he knows just yet. Your day will come but for now the old man rules

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think this post should be taken down. Unless I'm reading the initial post incorrectly, I believe that the post indicates a clear breaking of New Jersey, New York and Delaware State fish and game laws......
This s--t really pisses me off............

Doesn't take long here before someone gets their panties in a bunch and has to interpret information before all the facts are in....he did not say he kept them, just that he boated keeper blackfish. How many were released and survived is another story.

If you target a species, your breaking the LAW.....Period..... Not many blackfish will survive regardless of the water depth they are caught. Plain and simple, Target blackfish and catch your limit and then go for something else. That's what a sportsman would do.........

Blackfish season is open. You are allowed to KEEP/KILL/EAT 1 per angler. There is not a rule against catch and release fishing or labeling fish as "Keepers" so other post readers understand the size of your fish.
Rumster seems to know the laws and I'm sure follows them as he is on the bottom fishing grounds often. Why do you think he and his crew broke any laws?

Why would you also think that the fish would not survive after release? Many blackfish have survived hours in coolers only to flop around when they get fileted. Very hearty fish.

http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/pdf/2015/maregsum15.pdf and just for clarification they are listed as tautog on the link.

Bobby,

Relax man, unbunch your panties, he broke no law if he caught and released.

We kept our 3 fish for the table and released everything else. The limit is 1 fish per man. Late in the day we were actually boarded by coast guard, they did an all around safety check, looked if we had any stripped bass and then left. Even when the limit is 6, i am conservative. I only keep what i will eat.

You obviously do not know what youre talking about. Blackfish are one of the most durable fish out there. I recently caught a fish that was shot by a spear gun. The fish was still swimming and feeding and grew to 10 pounds 7 ounces. Im not like most that throw my fish 10 feet in the air and let them body slam into the water. I love the fishing for sport not meat, and i do not believe there is a problem with catching a fish and releasing it unharmed. PLUS THE SEASON IS OPEN.

He is breaking absolutely zero laws. He is targeting an in season fish!!!! Look up the facts before you try and berate someone. July 17th to November 15th; 1 fish per angler. So yeah I guess the season did open when you eyes were closed, and I guess they've continued to be closed for almost 3 weeks :)

Are you kidding me buddy. Don`t you have better things to do than harass fellow fisherman. Maybe you should get your facts straight before you start trouble and ask for a post to be taken down or better yet accuse someone of breaking the law..... It`s this kind of BS that turns so many people off from posting and sharing a great day on the water.
