My company is hiring.
Send me a PM if interested and I will get your resume in front of HR and to the top of the pile.
Job Description: Linux Operations Specialist
Roseland, New Jersey
Job Title: Linux Operations Specialist
Application Area: Digital Content -- Real-Time Business/Financial/Sports/General News
Stack: RH/CentOS Linux on Dell; RAID 5 and 10. Some AWS. MySQL, PHP, Perl, BASH, C++ and C
Linux Operations Specialists help drive our fast-paced, customer-intensive business by providing expert operational trouble-shooting and remediation when there are system problems or failures. Resource usage and application error-log analysis fill the time between problems.
The company serves major, well-known organizations in finance, media, manufacturing, and sports. These world-class customers expect and deserve nearly 100% up-time. Our Operations Specialists make that come true.
Operations Specialists resolve problems via diagnostic procedure that involve the best monitoring tools we can deploy, plus active engagement with our customer support staff and the customer's own operations department. They ask the right questions, run the right diagnostics, and provide crystal-clear answers, typically in real-time, and often with the client on an open bridge/conference call line.
They are heroes. They know Linux expertly enough, and have learned our applications so thoroughly, that they can keep calm, act professionally, and get to solutions quickly even as others are starting to panic.
This position is based in Roseland NJ, with light travel to our data centers in Cedar Knolls, Carteret, and Secaucus NJ (we use remote hands whenever possible). There are night and weekend on-call assignments as part of this job, in rotation with other Specialists. Our compensation plan takes this fact into account.
Requirements:
We do not believe in "heavy" management. You will need to set high standards of performance for yourself, assume responsibility and accountability, and self-impose standards of excellence rather than having such standards imposed on you. Your willingness to co-operate with others and work for the greater good is a must.
2 or more years as a Linux operations technologist in a commercial setting, with an emphasis on digital content a plus. Successful work while a student will count towards experience, so recent graduates with work experience are encouraged to apply.
