WOW was it cold this morning, could have sworn it was december! Had frost / ice all over the boat and my car thermometer was reading 29 degrees! My dad and i left keyport and ran right back to the NY grounds where we had a good bite last week. Land blocked the north wind and it was very tough anchoring conditions as we flipped and flopped all over the place. Threw the grapple and prayed that there would be enough current to hold us. After numerous attempts, we finally landed on some good ground. As the temperature rose so did the fishing. For the first hour there was an insane bite. The two of us put 20 keepers in the boat along with numerous shorts. But as usual as soon as we get a bite going, the wind comes up out of the west and shifts us off of our pile. Frustrating to say the least. Dropped the hook all over productive grounds with a flurry of fish here and there. Around noon the area was infested with boats which made it even more tough to get on our spots. We ran south back to the NJ side and finished by putting another 7 keeper sized fish on the deck and well as beating up on some monster seabass (which will be in the bucket on thursday). Ended the day keeping out limit of tog (2 fish) and 5 big trigger fish. After 3 straight trips with multiple fish over 10 pounds, the biggest fish of the day went around 6 pounds caught by my old man. He also set the hook into a monster but couldnt put the breaks on her and it snapped the leader, so it gives me hope for next time!
Birds for miles again today, but no bass underneath them. Caught a few snappers and shad/herring whatever the hell it was on ava 007s.
