I took my son, who is 13, porgy fishing with Capt. Tom on the Atlantic Star yesterday. I let my son stay home from school to do a father/son only porgy trip each year. Well, the fishing was TOUGH. Capt. Tom really worked on trying to get us fish. We only had a few bites. I landed a 13 inch blackfish that went back. My son didn't catch anything.

I struck up a conversation with an older gentleman who said his son is 40 now, but used to keep him home from school for a fishing trip when he was younger and said it some of his best memories. At the end of the trip, this older gentleman, who caught the most porgies, gave us his catch cause he said he had plenty at home. I just want to say thanks again to this gentleman who made our day. My son said he wants to pay it forward to someone else now.

Sounds like the lad is wise to the ways of the "gentlemen' world. You are obviously doing a fine job.

I have even handed off my pole with a fish on it so the kids can reel one in. Keep at it.

He is. He's a real good kid. I have no worries about him, hopefully he stays the path.

Keep your eye on the reports here and take the boy out when there's a real run so he can give away his own.

If he is up for a challenge, take him on an offshore sea bass trip. Drop and reel all day.

Paying it forward is what it is all about. If he learns that lesson so early in life
He is going to be very successfully in whatever career he chosers. I was 32 when the light bulb finally went off and I figured out the important acne of paying it forward

I think he'd definitely be up for it. I want to take him for stripers on a charter boat. I've never even fished on a charter boat so it would be a cool experience for the both of us

Not uncommon on the Star for one of the regulars to share or give away their catch. Regulars John and Jack to great guys that usually help others out.

That is a well learned lesson by Fluke You's son. He is a quality young man, that has started learning good life lessons. If anyone doesn't understand "Paying It Forward" go to the library, and get the movie "Pay it Forward" It is a story about a young boy who teaches older people about this theme. I saw it many years ago, and have encouraged my own children, and grandchildren to get the amazing good feeling that you get when you "Pay it Forward".
Thanks for sharing that, flukeyou. Papa

Take him on a Jamaica offshore seabass trip. Get bunks and you will both have a blast, especially around Christmas time. Enjoy :D
