Mushin Sportfishing

Capt. Alan and Mates Darryl and Lou D had an open boat group Sunday 10/11 morning to Monday 10/12 morning after weather has been cancelling many other recent trips. We tried some pot hopping upon arrival, and had a pick of mahi to 15# but there were lots of other boats competing for the pots, making this a little tough. Reading some fair amount bait down deep, we decided to do some trolling looking to load up on longfin - but that part of the plan did not come together. After we moved locations in the canyon, we found better fish reads, and put it on the drift to chunk with the sun still up in the sky. We pulled off a fish on bait, and dropped another on a jig. With nearly 150 boats piled up in the area of the canyon by dark, it was time to go old school and get away from the fleet. We set up and drifted a number of miles away from the fleet, and put back-to-back swords at 100# and 90# in the boat. The guys then chunked a white marlin that gave a eye-to-eye white marlin dance boatside before getting released. Had a flurry of yellowfin, and put 5 for 5 in the box on bait and jigs. We then picked here and there with 1, 2, or 3 on at a time with YFT between 60-80# and longfin from 35-50#. Resetting the drift to our best spot of the night around 4am, the bite turned on and guys couldn't keep the fish off jigs and bait. YFT and LFT were cutting through our slick continuously. The boxes were loaded, the guys said they had enough, started cutting them off, and said to leave them biting. Capt.
