Finally found one! After many failed Delaware trips this year to various locations I managed to hook into a Flathead Catfish for the first time!

The wildest thing about the catch was how lucky i was to land it on a tiny hook! I thought that I hooked it with the circle hook but nope - size 8 baitholder to the rescue. One of the photos shows just how small the hook is. This is a sort of "hair rig" for sunfish that I made (still needs work. maybe shorten the distance between the hooks.)

This fish instantly became the biggest catfish i have caught yet, and most likely the biggest fish so far for me in general.
The catfish was 31" long and weighed 13 pounds.
Caught on a live baitfish.

This was the second fish caught in that trip. the first was a small eel on a worm. Caught no other fish and had no other bites. If it weren't for the flathead, this would have been another usual Delaware trip for me (I always catch an eel in this river haha..)

Nice man, I like the rig, when I use big baits ill snell a circle with a long tag then snell a second circle at the distance I want. That way I can have a hook near the head and tail of a 12-16" bait

Congrats on your first flathead! It's great when the persistence and hard work pay off.

Congrats on the Flathead. Good looking invasive river monster. They are tons of fun to catch. I like that rig as well. As most of us know, those cats can play with the bait without inhaling it at times. Way to go buddy! Mission accomplished!:D

Congratulations on your first.

Beware though: Beyond that point there be dragons.

Thanks guys! Will be hunting the dragons (as Andre put it) in the Schuylkill river next year!
