There is a meeting tonight from 6:30-9:30 pm tonight (Tuesday Sept. 22, 2015) at the Ocean County Municipal Building
Room 119
101 Hooper Ave.
Toms River, NJ
This is a public comment hearing. Extremely important to attend! They are talking about regionalization which will crush the NJ Blackfish season.

What will the "regionalization" mean for us as far as bag limit and # of days?
This is the first I'm hearing about them touching the Tog Regulations.

I went to the meeting, there were ten (10) people there. It was mostly just a meeting to familiarize the public with what is going on and to answer questions and accept public comment on many aspects of the fishery, including the illegal catch.
Public comment will be accepted via, email and snail mail until October 23, 2015. The "Public Information document" can be viewed or even downloaded at
http://www.asmfc.org/files/PublicInput/TautogAm1PID_PublicComment_Aug2015.pdf
Read it,(if you can make sense of it) download it comment please.
There will be another meeting, down the rosd, please try and attend.

This is a repost by a Capt, our friend who holds the NJ State record Tog caught last year and who we stand on the same position of this proposal. One thing is for sure, the northeast winds will change for the better, unlike any regulations that will be imposed.
Well, I have to say, what a piss poor turn out that was. Kind of embarrassing to only have 11 people from the entire state to show up for an asmfc meeting. There will be another meeting coming up so any of you Internet jockeys that want to complain when we get cut way back, you may want to make time to get to the next meeting.
Now to the finer points. None of the options presented other than status quo, was a viable option for NJ. In option 2 (NJ, NY, LIS) mortality rate is set at a cautionary level. I brought up the question that reducing the numbers farther, would they show that NJ's Numbers are lowering the morality rate for NY? Didn't seem like he wanted to answer that. So we know what that means. Also, I asked about being lumped in with the Delmarva region. That would affectively make a 2 region breakdown and they really want 3 or even 4 if LIS is made its own region. In my view, if regionalization does occur, we need to be in the Delmarva region. we have much lower fishing pressure, both recreational and commercial, than NY and north. From 2012-2014, Connecticut took nearly as many blackfish as NJ and NY combined. So option 3 would be devistating. So we know overfishing is occurring there. Our seasons will be mixed up horribly if lumped together with NY as they have no spring season, and a much earlier fall season, with no winter season. NY has a longer commercial season than recreational season. This would also mess up our commercial season and not to mention the problems occurring with varying gear types. And don't even get me started on the Pirates paradise they have going on up there with illegal fish being taken for the live market.
There was much more talked about, if you would like to be more informed, get to the next meeting.

Personaly, I feel that once again they are running off on ideas that they don't have the numbers for. When ask when the numbers would be available, they said, "Spring, or maybe not until early summer." If you look at the time line, on the info sheet, it would seem that they expect to have this done by May of 2016. So I have to assume it will be done before all the numbers are in???????????????
Captain, I'm not trying to be a smart ass or anything, guess I'm just curious as to why you chose to post everything in such a large bold font?

Absolutely Reelron, what numbers have they ever had that were correct? This is the way incompetents justify their existence. Create things, rules, regulations that constantly need to be examined, re examined and so on and we just have to accept it. Why is it that we never sit across a table speaking to someone like a Bogan or Santee who know fact? That would be too easy and the puppet masters don't like easy, fact, common sense or truth. So again in this case, they will put the horse before the cart.
As for my bold type, some of my customers asked for it. For some the eyes are the second thing to go. Thankfully my mind is still sharp. Tight lines.

Mario, unfortunately, THEY don't give a crap. Doesn't matter if 10 or 10,000 showed up for a meeting (Washington proved that). These people have to justify their jobs with on-going change. It's never to our advantage so we can Survive. Do you think for a minute they give a crap about the opinion of a Bogan or a Santee? Absolutely not, as proven by the track record.
It's not about the fish my friend, it's about taking away a way of life that we have worked so hard for!! Our Governor is out trying to become president, do you think he really gives a crap for me or you or even want's to get involved? Where's the benefit? We can't contribute thousands to the campaign to show support like the lobbyists from the other side, so we are screwed....Just gotta do what you gotta do to feed your family and pay the bills, it's all Bullshit!
I live for what I do, I've played by the rules many years as hard as it has been and have survived, I don't know how much longer I can survive so I have to change the rules, someway, somehow!! I'm not going out like this...

They own you. They own everything. They own all the important land. They own and control the corporations. They’ve long since bought and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the state houses, the city halls. They got the judges in their back pockets and they own all the big media companies, so they control just about all of the news and information you get to hear. They got you by the balls. They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying. Lobbying to get what they want. Well, we know what they want. They want more for themselves and less for everybody else, but I’ll tell you what they don’t want. They don’t want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don’t want well-informed, well-educated people capable of critical thinking. They’re not interested in that. That doesn’t help them. That’s against their interests.

So, what I'm getting from your statement is that it is basically futile to donate to any group, RFA or SSFFf ? "They" aren't going to listen anyway. Maybe we should that those $ and buy Golf clubs?

We all see it and we are not going out like this either. We ALL need to continue and attempt to open the eyes of those who can't hear truth from those who are in this industry, day after day, year after year, with the hopes that the light goes on and someone says, " hey, that makes sense, they are right". I still hate to think everyone who has a say at the rules has tunnel vision. It's hard to have an optimistic outlook when you don't know what these people will throw at us tomorrow.

I'll let you know after tonights meeting with the SSFFF Ron. Meeting with the scientists to discuss the model they have been working so hard on the past couple of years. It will be ready for the Peer Review coming up in a couple months, after that it's up to the Gov. to say Yay or Nay.....If it's Nay, then yes, you better buy golf clubs cause unfortunately, there will be no-one left to fight.
Hoping to get Gerry to the meeting so he can also give his take on what he hears and talk about the process....
