A couple of keepers and shorts to go with some fish lost in sight, but out of reach. Drifting conditions were horrible as we hardly moved. Be sure to grab some eels if you head down as our supply is limited. Also, if you are fishing with braid you will be required to have a 20' mono topshot from now on.
Pool fish was 21lbs and edged out a 19lber , and the pool fish was caught on a rental rod with mono.

Novice question: Can you explain why braids not good in this situation?
Thanks!

Tangles in the dark with microthin braid are tough. With a topshot most tangles wind up on the thicker mono which is easier to deal with.

I also think that mono is way better then braid when bait fishing for Stripers.
I believe the line stretch of the mono allows for a more subtle hook sets and gives you the cushion you need when fighting the fish so you don't pull the hook.
Don't get me wrong, braid has it's place bottom fishing and jigging but I think mono is the better choice for bait fishing.

Thanks for the braid rule, long time coming. Worst feeling in the world losing a huge striper because some yahoo thought braid in the dark was a good idea. Hard enough mono on mono during a blitz.
