nah.. according to some of the literature, they do stray as far north as Nova Scotia, although other sites say Massachusetts.. In any case, they certainly don't show up very often.. Whats really weird is that it was caught surf fishing.. They are reef fish and are caught on reef and rock areas, not on sandy surf... bob
its a cool catch but just a single fish swimming north of its usual range, within its biological temperature range, I dont think "global warming" should be mentioned in the explanation at all.. fish do weird things some times. they have no concept of what state they are swimming off, or what books say about where they should be found. its late august/early september the peak time for any southern visitor species in NJ, just a rare and noteable catch.

I agree the Cubera can be an anomaly , however the salmon / trout kill on WC is a sure sign something's wrong somewhere , if not climate change ?????
Too much going on around the globe to keep R heads in the sand any longer !

Anyone know what the NJ State record is for Cubera Snapper?
