Was out at some mud hole wrecks today what a beautiful day out there it was like a lake..anyway what the hell is this?! Snakehead? Some kind of eel but it had a monster jaw and teeth bigger than a blue fish

They are a protected species. No possession allowed. Hardly ever see them anymore.

It is an ocean pout, mistakenly called "conger eel" in the NY Bight area.. The true Atlantic Conger Eels we catch around here are called "silver eels" for some unknown reason.. You were lucky you only saw one.. Sometimes on wreck trips in May or June, you catch 10 or more of those horrors for every ling you catch.. Its like sinking a hook deep into a steel belted radial. Toughest mouth of any fish I have ever caught anywhere..bob

I was just thinking if you fish the Mud Hole often and you don't know what that was, you are e very lucky man!

If you fished the Farms in June, you could get 18 congos in 30 mins.
You can go there almost 365 days a year and load up on them, double headers, mixed sizes --- barrels full. It's a shame there's so many there those ling don't have a chance. It's also a shame that they're "protected"
