Got out nice and early this morning with my dad. Terrible conditions to start with a hard NW wind and an incoming tide but the fluke did not seem to care. all the hits were aggressive and even the shorts fought like hell. The fish were so aggressive that we had multiple double headers on the bucktail and teaser. I actually caught a 27 incher that not only engulfed the bucktail, but ate my teaser as well. We had multiple bites right off the bat with some shorts landed and numerous misses. We decided to hit the deeper parts of the reach channel and the fluke were just as aggressive as they were on the flats but the fish in the 48-55 foot range were all solid fish. Around 11 the wind dropped completely and we were tired of banging up on fluke so we switched gears and ran out to the ling grounds. No wind + no current= no anchoring conditions. We drifted around but couldn't get anything going only landing 2 ling, both of which were huge. with the south wind picking up and us being 30+ miles from keyport we called it a day. It was finally nice to see some big fish in the bay as they seemed to disappear the past few trips. pics will come up shortly.
Recap:
fluke love new penny gulp 6inch grubs,
middle of the channel produced drop and reel fluking with nice keepers and jumbo shorts
total:
limit plus of fluke only keeping 7 to 27inches (why kill em if you aren't gonna eat em) 2 ling and 20+ shorts. Good day with the old man.
