Hey man,
That is awesome my earliest memories are with my G-Pop fishing for fluke and snappers. The answer is you will catch plenty. Find the other boats drifting the bay and river and follow the lead. Killies on a 18" leader with 1-3koz of lead will do just fine. I'd also use all super light rods, freshwater tackle fish are small but are excellent fun. If you feel like keeping it interesting a small gulp on a 1/4 jig head will bang them up too. Enjoy the time with the kid

Fluke are all over the place in that river. First i usually start off in front of the tennis courts for a few drifts (got one over 5 pounds there this year), then i go into the river and drift along the south side of the river. Bucktails w/ gulp or dragging bait works fine. I believe they are getting a few snappers, but not a ton as of last week when i was there. Forget crabbing in that river. If you want good crabbing, go to the navesink or manasquan river. The crabbing blows in shark river for some reason. I may try to get out there this weekend in my kayak, but the weather looks... not so good. So we'll see. Good luck.
