Very weird, I fish the same stretch many many times and have rarely caught bass, only pike. Today, 4 bass and 1 pike. This was by far the biggest bass I've caught out of the river. Anyways a guy was near by when I caught this and A. Insisted I keep it and B. Insisted it was a small mouth. Needless to say, he lives to fight another day and I'm 99% sure it's a largemouth. :)

That's a largemouth alright - and a nice one. You could definitely have eaten him... or you could just spray oven cleaner in your mouth and eliminate the middle man.

That is a good-sized Largemouth. Did you get any measurements?
I'm really glad you decided to release her.
I don't understand the kill-crowd. They value catching big bass like everyone else, but if they actually manage to catch one - they kill it due to some vague sense that a trophy should be "kept".
Clint Eastwood said in Unforgiven, "It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have."
That's how I feel about killing a bass. Not only is a trophy bass being removed the the waterway, but all the growth she would have put on in the coming years and all the eggs she would have laid in the spring never happen. We all lose.

Well in his defense the bass there are a little different looking...can I assume this guy had no teeth or hair?
Nice bass btw, I've actually caught none pike fishing this year so far which I thought was weird

LMFAO!!
Great lookin Passaic River largemouth Justin! Kudos for the release too, you'll get a bigger one anyway. The largest smallie I've seen came outta here as well, you never really know what's eyeing your lure down there.

The Largemouth are more prevalent in certain areas of the river. Other spots they are non existent. I've had 20+ Largemouth days in August and November (43 degree water temps!), yet have never seen one in other spots. My pb is actually from the river, a 5lb 4oz slob a few summers ago. Nice fish.

Ive caught more bass this year out of the P than the past 2 years combined. Hopefully the stretch is supporting a bass population now in addition to the pike
