i could have called this report weekend flunking at bernie's because we could've used a mock body for all the extra keepers! After a brutal weekend trip last time our first spot was right on the money this time and it stayed on fire all day. The tides changed and the wind changed but John just kept readjusting the drift and kept us on the action.
We had 'jimmy' on board again and he started off early putting fluke in the boat and had his keeper limit by 9am! John and I had only two keepers each at this point but each of us ended the day with 7 keeper sized catches for a 4 man total plus 1! That's where Bernie would've come in handy hahaha. I never did catch jimmy's fish count at 51. All I could do was 32 and with johns 15...98 fish total...with a bunch of shorts falling off swinging up I'm calling it a 100 fish day.
After our limit was reached of course the bigger fish started hitting the net, but it's all good, cpr fluke up to the capitain's 25" slab!
Jimmy out fished is primarily with gulp shrimp on the top. I did my damage with a spro bunker color jig. Even when I used a high shrimp too I caught mostly on the jig. I was able to use a small 3/4 oz with the 20' depths and slower drifts most off the day, making it that much more enjoyable on light gear. John hammered his hog on a pink bucktail. The bottom transitions seemed to be key as we'd nab a keeper many times right before our jigs started getting engulfed in muck.
Everything came together for our best day fluking hands down, most fun I've had in a while!
