This is my first post here on the forum. I hope to gain some knowledge and share some where I can.
I'm looking to do some bassin' at Speedwell Lake (new baby in the house, so this is one of the only lakes I may actually have an opportunity to hit early morning and during naps). The lake is pretty overgrown right now, so I'm thinking frogs in and around the salad and spinnerbaits in the more open areas.
Has anyone had success at Speedwell who can offer some insight/strategies?

Welcome to the site man! Lots of info on here as well as some of NJ's finest anglers.
Speedwell was dredged 2 years back and I'm not sure where all the fish went or if they transplanted them to another body of water. There's fish in that place but I'm not so sure the lake bounced back after the draw down. I haven't heard any reports from personal friends that fish up that way. Best way to find out is to put in an hour here and there to see if the LUNKERS are still around.
GOOD LUCK!!!

Welcome to the site! Personally I am not a big fan of Speedwell Lake in the summer. Gets too weedy and smelly for me. I think that the STP upstream has a lot do with that. I've had good luck catching bass and pickerel in nearby Burnham Park Pond (the upper one). Sunrise Lake which is also nearby has some respectible bass too. Both places mentioned have good parking and more shoreline access than Speedwell Lake.

Welcome to the site. I don't know if the "search" on here will help but you can always try it. You may be close to streams that get trout stocked also, in the spring and fall.

Thanks very much for the thoughts on Speedwell and the recommendations for other local spots. I'm looking forward to checking them out.

A buddy of mine just landed a 19" Largemouth on mouse out of a local lake. He lives in Morristown, but I should have asked what lake he was at. Speedwell is a possibility.
