Took Jake, my oldest, out on Sunday. Got on the water around 8 and headed east. We were pickin some shorts and I was starting to think where we were gonna try next. The. My rod did the "old double over":D. I look at jake and tell him to reel up and get the net. it's very rare for me to call for a net before I see the fish, but this felt good. The fish took three bluefish like runs and then came up. Jake has never netted a fish but it was too big to flip. It looked huge when it was two feet under water (I'm gonna buy a hot tub:eek:). Jake scooped it up and a nice fat seven pound fish hit the deck. Not a doormat in any way, but it certainly fought like one. The drag screaming runs were great and I thought it was a fluke the whole way. I got another keeper 18 inches and we both picked a couple of shorts. I decided to make a move and head south towards Scotland.
The weather had other plans. My fault for not noticing the southerlies picked up just enough to make it very messy. Half way between long island and Scotland we hit a wake, my head smashed into the wheel and we lost the electronics. The switch panel came off all the switches. In building seas I found myself contorted under the console. By the time I got us up and running I ended up with a little goose egg on my forehead and jake was green from rolling around in tight three foot seas. Throw in the temperature and it was time to call it quits.
