Last Friday I had a group Charter with Eastmans fleet. Originally it was supposed to be a 3 AM to 8 PM trip to Platts for Haddock, Pollack , Cusk but Captain Phil said he would take the 18 I had signed up for this trip to Fipps

LEGITIMATE NUMBERS

Close to 1200 Pollack for 18 Anglers

We had 3 hours of Non stop double and triple headers

It was SICK

Great fishing. So roughly 500lbs per man @ an average 8lbs (?) per fish. Wonder what you do with 500lbs of fish? Is there a commerical aspect to this? I don't know what kind of regs on selling there are up there. Not trying to make trouble, just curious.

I will help Educate you

There are NO Limits on Pollack retention and I did not weigh the fish but most guys walked off the boat with well over 100 lbs of fillets each

I don't know about you but my family could easily eat 100 pounds of Pollack in a year. I want to go fishing up there. I have a wedding over Labor Day in Maine I may have to stop there on the way home.

Im not opposed to filling the freezer with fish, been a few years but I do remember Green Harbor when there was no cod limit and double headers were common. In general of course its the commercial guys who deplete the stocks far more than recreational fishermen. There are many good sized fish in the pictures but also some really small fish, just curious, do the small ones get tossed back if they are unhooked in good shape?

Just a thought in the fifties when I was a kid in April and May guys would fill bags with flounder big and very small. My Dad would say the day will come when it will take all day to catch a doz.

This is pathetic, 1200 fish for 18 guys.
Assuming you get 5lbs of fillet on average per fish that's 333.33lbs of fillets per guy! I don't care who you are or how much fish you eat. That's just gross waste. And abuse of a resource

This is what happens when one fishery is closed &' another exhibits severe limits, they must target a marginal species to maintain a business ! It's not there fault ask Feds what happens next ! Pollock & whiting limits enacted then all who fish this region are shafted.
It's a mess & no end in sight , anglers paying a dear price for years of mismanagement !!

Lots of those fish are sent to food banks, These fish are caught in an area the avg person never gets to so you are wrong about abuse. not one fish on these trips are wasted.

FYI I do one of these a year to fill my freezer for the year.
On this trip it avgs out to 140lbs per person of fillets of prime Pollock.
most don't come close to this trip.( and I was not on this trip)

These are the same fish that commercial fishermen catch by the tens of thousands in one scoop so you can have your MacDonald's fish sandwich's
Why complain if we want to catch our own as long as its legal and nothing is wasted, I need 120 lbs of fish for my family for the year and never buy that crap at the stores.
when I get back from these trips I have people begging for fish and I do share some with family and friends.

I saw boats catching this many seabass in a day and don't here you cry about that.

Regardless of what you think it's probably not a great idea to brag on outrageous numbers like that. Attracts the wrong type of regulatory attention you don't want. Not like they're gonna go after the commercial guys.

Yes anything under 19 inches went back. Those small Pollack were 21 to 23 inches

Give me a break

They give us 3 Haddock and ZERO Cod and now you want to say don't keep that many Pollack ?

NMFS is screwing Gulf Of Maine recreational fisherman

If you want to believe their is a shortage of Cod I have some swampland for you in Arizona

We could not catch Haddock because 5 different drops were LOADED WITH COD UP TO 30 LBS
