Mushin Sportfishing

Mushin ran an Open Boat Canyon Safari 7/2-3 for shark, tunas, and tiles. While the original plan was to drift the mid-range grounds for sharks the first evening, we instead ran straight to the canyon to troll bigeye as there was some good bigeye bite the evening before. The bigeye bite did not materialize for us. We set up for shark drifting in the canyon around 2 am and didn't even have all the lines out yet when Dave N fought a BIG dusky shark to boatside for a release. The guys had some more shark action for the next couple of hours. We put it on the troll at gray light and pulled the big stuff for eyeballls - ended up 1 for 3 on yellows, and added 2 mahi. We had BIG blue marlin pile onto the helpless hooked mahi - what a show! Water looked great at 75 degrees and blue, great signs of life and looked fishy but the tuna did not cooperate too well today. We switched to blue line tiles - and quickly added LOTS of meat for the guys with fish up to 20#, and popped some tilefish cherries for three of the guys. With plenty of tile on board, we ran into an inshore shark spot where we pulled the hook on a nice shark. While we did not bluefin fish, there was some good reports of mid-range bluefin fishing.
