I am looking to get out and troll some ballyhoo at the pots, does any local bait stores carry Ballyhoo? or anything else that the mahi will eat?
this is going to be my 1st trip out in Jersey going for mahi usually troll ballyhoo in FLA

You can also troll feathers or squids. Mahi also respond well to chunks bucktails and jigs or plugs if you want to mix it up instead of trolling.

They're garbage disposals. They'll eat most baits if you're casting to them. Squid, mackerel, bunker, mullet, washed out Bally chunks, tuna skins, spearing, and killies. Don't go nuts. Fluoro leader around 20-30 lb test and a small hook buried in the chunk. Keep the first in the water behind the boat. It'll draw more in. Don't shy away from dropping a whole hoo down with an egg sinker past the fish higher in the water column. Sometimes that bull or cow hangs down outta sight and can easily ingest a whole hoo.
