We had a great crew of guys out on Sunday for our open boat sea bass trip. We left the dock at 5:45am and headed to our first spot. It didn't take much time for Joe to put the first knucklehead in the box (which wound up being the pool winner at the end). After that, it was just a pick of shorts so we decided to move on. The next few spots was more of the same only adding another couple of fish to the cooler so we decided to make a long run and I'm glad we did.

After a couple of wiggles in the new area, we got dialed in and the keeper ratio definitely improved from 20:1 to maybe 8:1. We managed to add another 30 fish to our catch along with some ling and half a dozen tog (safely released).

Around 1pm, we changed gears and did a little fluke recon. Not much to write home about with the flatties. I think the water temp on the bottom is still a little too chilly. Phil caught the only keeper just over 18" and I think there were another 7 or 8 shorts caught along with a bunch of dogfish, skates and sea robins.

Overall, the sea bass action wasn't bad, but the keeper ratio sucked. The guys still had a good time enjoying a beautiful day on the water and everyone went home with a decent bag of meat.

Til next time...
