Paul, I know there was a lot of "buzz" on the board last year after the weather issues and concerns with the tournament decision not to have a rain date. Just received this year's registration form. Is there still no back up date in the event of weather? Do anglers still have the opportunity to register on line up to midnight of the event? Not seeing it listed on the form.

Our board voted to hold the tournament rain or shine unless there is a hurricane in which case the tournament will be held on 8/8. I prefered a bad weather date but the majority of our board disagreed. The reason is that even with a bad Nor'easter like we had last year there was still good conditions in certain parts of our state. For instance, several huge fluke were weighed in at our Sandy Hook Port. Also, a number of our entrants take vacation days for ourtournament and they do not want an alternate date. Even in bad conditions, fish can be caught in the bays and rivers.
Yes, you may register up to mid-night the night before the tournamnet. However, you might want to register by 7/20 though to have a shot at our 25K prize. Only our early entrants are eligible for that prize. To win it the fluke must also be over 12 lbs and be the largest one caught in the tournament
We also beefed up our tournament with $50. and $100. port calcuttas as well as $50. and $100. overall calcuttss. We will be paying out 7/8 of the money for each calcutta so some people should win some serious cash. Also, we are still paying $1200. to the first place winners of each of our nine ports.

Paul, thanks for the quick response. Nice to see the added calcuttas to hopefully entice some more entrants into this tournament. While I empathize with the anglers who need to fish a certain date (I've been there), it would be nice if the committee were to have the back up date for all to be able to fish it after they have paid to enter. Sandy Hook is somewhat protected and not every one is registered to fish there. Is that an option for anglers to fish in another port where they are not registered if the weather were to repeat itself on tournament day? Something maybe to consider if not..Thank you for all you do with JCAA.

Thanks Gerry, the link for tournament info. is www.jcaa.org
Mike, I agree with you 100% but I was in the minority, However, you don't have to really fish "out of a particular port". Rather you just have to wegh your fish in there. For instance it is within the rules to register for our Manasquan port and then trailer your boat to Sandy Hook or Cape May. You can fish wherever you want within 20 miles of the NJ coast regarless of which port you registered for. However, you do have to be back on time to weigh in your fish at the port that you registered for.
