got up at 2am this morning, cut bait in my kitchen till 3am.turned the marine radio on and got the bad news.15 to 20 with gusts to 25.called my charter told them to go back to bed.Going to be to rough and didnt want to beat them up.They thanked me for the courtesy and rebooked.got the marine forecast again at 4am,changed to 10 to 15 no mention of gust.called my charter back ,phone was off ,they were sound asleep.Thank you NOAA.I am fuming, not because i lost the charter ,but i could be fishin now.As a result i invite someone to kick my butt, prefferably someone with a size 14 shoe.capt, tom joseph

No need for a butt kicking. Based on info you had you made the right call for your charter as you had their best interest in mind rather than your own.

Walked the shore this morning 5 - 7 am light southwest 5 mph maybe. Started kicking 10-12 as I was packing it in. But still looked very flat out.

If your going to plan your outdoor activities based on the NWS, you better find another hobby...............

the weather forecasts are awful. best bet, if i was a captain with charters, i would take a meteorology class at a county college or something and use the accuweather satelite, radar, etc. imaging to place my own forecasts on the specific areas i was looking to go that day.

WindGuru.com This seems to be pretty accurate whenever I've used it.

Has anyone found it does NOT work well?

NOAA has recently been caught "revising" temps from past years models downward in order to make it seem like the Earth is warming and fit the political view of the government. I mean really, they just decided to change reality.

I use windguru. They overestimate wind speeds a lot. But that's not always bad.

Windguru is the best forecast I can find - especially long range for precipitation.

Take the mm of precip in the winter time and divide by 2.5 for inches of snow.

Yep Wind guru is not perfect but better then most others. We have a link up above under resources labeled Wind Informarion that will take you right to it.

I will usually look at the buoys, I know they are offshore a bit but gives a general idea. www.ndbc.noaa.gov Pick northeast and you will see the entrance to New York harbor and south of Islip. Water temp waves direction.
