Had things to do in the morning so missed the nicer part of Sundays conditions. Grabbed the boys, took a right at the hook and headed in to the nasty SE wind for a little PM Sea bass beat down for a few hours. It was actually a little better off shore than near shore. Glad we made the run. Wind against tide slowed us to a nice paced drift and we picked away at the Sea bass. More shorts than I had hoped but steady action. A few Baccala came up on a good piece so kept at that spot which was holding a mess of fish. and then hooked into what I thought was bottom. Is there anything better than when the bottom starts moving and taking some drag.... I'm pretty good at fish ID based on the fight and this one had me guessing. Not a Blue or Tog Not a skate, Too strong for a dog fish, No head shake, Not fighting like the cod I just caught. Not enough of a power run for a bass. What then? A nice 10 pound Pollack to my surprise. The top hook on the high low got him behind the head during the fight so he was over leveraged. Made him feel like 20 pounds. Anyway I'm glad he made it to gaff. Next stop. Fish and chips.
