Gang had the opportunity to take the ride up to port jefferson and fish for fluke on a sponsored party boat --the Osprey V
After the Passing of my mother on memorial day it was the first opportunity to get dad out with his three sons and do some fluking. This was a mental health day for dad and time out to clear his head..
We were greeted right from the start by a great crew of mates who were helpful, pleasant and all around nice guys.
The fishing in the morning was decent and we had some drift. Managed a couple keepers each with a fair amount of short action..jig and gulp worked better for us, and as the fish were spitting up sand eels Palmers tackle sand eel teasers caught four of our keepers. Then in the afternoon the wind dropped and our drift was non-existent.. the fishing died out.
The captain was a great guy and joked with us all day while working his tail off to get us some better fishing...think the east wind pushing into the sound and the new moon made the water colder and shut off the bite..
But he moved us around and found us a few fish here and there and gave us an extra hour of fishing to try and get us more keepers.
I would recommend these guys to anyone --it was a great and pleasant trip with a great boat and crew..these guys are top notch and work hard for their customers...As we were ready to head back in the captain personally walked around his boat and thanked each customer for coming and handed out a $10.00 off coupon for the next trip and said he was sorry the fishing wasn't better...Now that's old school customer service!
Thumbs up!!!! Ended the day with 11 keepers for the 4 of us in tough conditions.
And thanks for a fun trip!

Hey Anthony,
I am sorry to hear about mom. Yesterday was the 5 year anniversary for my dad who passed at 58. It does not get any easier but you just learn how to deal with it. Its good to see you and your family are close; keep up the traditions and never lose sight of what is important.

On a happier note... you put together a very nice catch! feel free to drop off some filets!

All the best,
JP

Sorry to hear of the passing of your mom. Really going to miss her. I would always find her and hang out for a while when we were all real early each morning before the boat sailed.
Smile just thinking about her making bait way early then kicking shit out of the rest us fishing lives from the back of the boat, hell of a fisher lady she was!
She was great to even a stranger like me, and your pop, always a smile and something good to say, say hi to him from me.
Far as your trip, Way to work em, some FLT in your future.
My health is finally letting me do some fishing, with some Palmers bucktails I still have of coarse, will post up catches and props.
Better days and a good season to you and the family
Frank

Mom touched many people and was a fishing demon and a regular fixture on the Big Mohawk...here's a pic of a recent trip on the Big Mohawk
She always loved my tandem hooked hi /lo style rigs i made for her!
