First post here. Great site. Spent almost 4 hours at a pike spot around sunrise. Had a good 15-20 takes. Couldn't land a single one. They just kept spitting the hook. Normally I would be aggravated beyond belief, but this is the first year that I'm actually fishing for pike. I know where they are, so hopefully I can land one.

sounds like there might be something you can do to raise your odds of keeping them hooked...a different action rod? a trailer hook? are you loosing them when they jump?

Keep at, you're off to a much better start then I was when I started pike fishing. Maybe a harder hook set could work? What type of lures are you using?

Don't use trebles you don't need them and they hurt the fish
Use a harder hook set, that is the issue
Please take care of this precious resource

Thank you for the tips so far. I keep losing them when I set the hook. I've tried waiting to set, setting when I see them take it, eye crossing set, set a bit lighter, and nada. They haven't held on long enough to jump, yet. I am using dardevil spoons with the factory double hooks. I'm tossing it with a Shakespeare medium action 6' rod with a bait caster reel.

Keep at it buddy. They've been hitting very light all week where Ive been fishing. But when they get hooked they are very hyper right now. Jumping out of the river like Tarpon or something. You'll get em eventually.
Welcome to the site dude!!!
