This boat was stuck for several hours. He lost a lot more than a days pay. Last year millions of bunker died. This year boats are dead in the water. The tow boat waited hours to try to get this boat out. Even after hours of waiting the tow boat was getting stuck in the muck. Notice this boat is stuck in the channel.

Good question and I agree, we only had 2-2.5 feet in that stretch at dead low tide. We were able to get through in our 23 footer but the bigger boats are going to have trouble anything close to low tide.

That's bad news for all the big boats in the back.

Same here Deep Pockets. I passed that boat heading out yesterday morning and saw him back at the docks later working on it. I took the cautious approach where the marker broken off is and putted through the area with the motor trimmed up and taking it wide away from the green can.

Hey Sharky - I have 23 Parker as well, open back PH I'm sure you like your 23.

I plugged coordinates of the stick near the green can and swung real wide and no problems. Feel bad for the big boats that have to work the tides to get out that's stinks for them.

Thanks again for NJ fishing poster who posted coordinates of the stake near the green can.....

Hope to cya out there Sharky, say hi if you see me👍🏻

You should live long enough to see this river dredged. All the crap they talk about now, planning etc, is all smoke and mirrors. Nobody wants to take the responsibility to make a decision. Getting worse with every moon tide change.

I bet if a class action lawsuit was filed against NJ dept of transportation for lost revenue, as well as boat damage for the millions of dollars of boats kept in the river , they would get off their asses a little quicker

That was unfortunately me you are seeing there. trying to stay on the red side with what looked like more water, the wind had pushed the marker way off where it should be. i have the chain now as a "prize" its about 20' long for a channel thats 4 ft at high tide. luckily i escaped with only a slightly bent prop and 945 towing bill. managed to freedive under boat and change props. 3 hrs later.... they need to use bamboo stakes in areas like that. save the chain and buoys for ocean channels. class action lawsuit sounds good to me btw

The entire back of the bay has not been dredged since the condo's went up on the island. The island is where they used to pump the spoils. On another note
other than the channel in the river all the holes have been filled from silting , and new land masses appear on low tide.

My boat is in shark river municipal marina. Have not been out yet but plan on being on the water Tuesday. Is this closer to Belmar in the channel?

Sorry to hear your misfortune.Passed by you at channel and knew you made the most to stay near the red can to make way. Passed by on my way in at docks and saw you had the prop up on deck. Hopefully all worked out for you.....

It's right where you would turn right to go North South if coming from the SR Marina, condos would then be on your left...

Very sad!!

Worst I've seen it in 20 years.

Facebook group if you want to follow what's going on and how you can help:

It won't be long when even the party boat fleet won't be able to get out!!

This is a wide spread problem. I am in Monmonth Cove Marina. No one can get out at low tide. I draw 26 inches and I can't make it out

Two boats hit "channel markers" on Sunday and both had chains wrapped around props. I put channel markers in quotes because there is no channel. I'm sitting at my dock Saturday morning waiting for the tide to come in. Sad truth is I'll be forced to move my boat out of Shark River. Translation = no money spent in local small businesses in the Belmar/Neptune area. No dining out in the Belmar/Neptune area. No reason to go to the Belmar/Neptune area. Mindless idiocy at its finest.

Are there any commercial boats sailing around the island from the North Channel or back in Shark River Hills? The marinas, commercial guys and the local businesses should band together and demand answers. Shark River channels were terrible 15 years ago. I can't imagine what it is like now.

Frank,

This is what we have all called the North Channel. Old marker was 3 poles banded together, now sheared off and just below the water line at low water. The entire channel leading back from the Belmar gas docks is horrible.

Saw the Coast Guard go thru the channel at 11 yesterday morning, and returned about 1/2 hour later. They ran at idle, they know, but what can they do.

I also saw the boat aground on Saturday, he was in the channel and could not move until almost 3 1/2 hours into the incoming.

My marina, Seaport in front of the 71 bridge, has about 2 to 3 feet at low water, not good but I am in the channel in 30 feet.

I watch the tidal reports daily to see when I will have the best chance at navigating safely through on the days I plan to go.. This past week I waited about an hour more on incoming tide to feel comfortable with it. Always have to keep the return in mind at the end of the fishing as well as you most likely will face similar conditions depending on your timing.

I was reading 2-3 ft in middle of channel at low tide last Friday, I imagine anything much bigger than 23-25 ft would struggle getting through there.
