Has anyone ever been asked to produce their NJ Saltwater Recreational Registry Program card? I know it is free to register, just curious if any rangers/officers ever ask for it.

I was boarded by the coast guard last Friday for a safety inspection. They asked if I had one but did not ask to see it. At least I know all my safety gear is up to snuff

One fluke tourney we weighed a fish in last year required a current NJ Registration Card...believe it was JCSA.

I was asked once by a CO when I was fishing from shore in the belford area. He checked my card and bait then I left. According to the saltwater registry website the penalty is a $25 fine and $50 for subsequent offenses.

I was asked for and produced NJ and NY Registration cards during a Coast Guard Safety Inspection in NY Harbor last year. Both cards are required because I sometimes fish in NY waters including the Upper and Lower Harbor, East River and the Rockaways.
Before anybody jumps all over this post, I checked with a Captain at the NYSDEC Enforcement Office in White Plains, NY and was told I needed both.

I've been carded a couple of times getting on the beach in Long Branch believe it or not. The first time the kid in the booth asked me for my fishing license  I replied that there is no such thing in NJ but I do have my saltwater registration card on my phone. Needless to say I was visited on the beach shortly after by some guy on a quad. The guy was cool and everything was fine but I always wondered that if I didn't produce it and fished what could they have done.
